County Government and Multi-Agency Team Advance Horn of Africa Gateway Project Initiatives

The meeting chaired by County Secretary Mr. Billow Issack Hassan at the county headquarters focused on key infrastructure and development initiatives under the Horn of Africa Gateway Project (HoAGP). The project aims to establish a One Stop Border Post, Trade Facilitation Centres, and staff housing at critical border points like Suftu, Ladeni, and Elwak. These initiatives are part of a broader plan, which includes constructing the Isiolo-Mandera road, installing fiber optics along the road, building virtual weighbridges, and setting up border posts and facilitation centers. Additionally, the project involves Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

The meeting brought together representatives from the Kenya Revenue Authority, National Lands Commission, Kenya National Highways Authority, Kenya International Borders Office, National Treasury, and the North and North East Development Initiative. The delegation was led by Mr. Macharia Chege, Deputy Commissioner of Customs – Border Management and Enforcement.

Mr. Billow praised the team for their dedication and reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to supporting the successful implementation of the HoAGP. Also in attendance were County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) for Agriculture and Trade, Chief Officers, and technical teams from Lands, Trade, Agriculture, Revenue, and the Office of the Governor. The team also expressed appreciation for H.E. the Governor’s recent visit to their office, underscoring the Governor’s commitment to the project’s implementation.
