Governor Khalif Chairs County Steering Group Meeting, Adopts County Cash Transfer Plan

H.E. Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif today convened a County Steering Group (CSG) meeting at the Governor’s Hall in Mandera Town to review and strengthen the county’s drought mitigation and response efforts.

During the meeting, the CSG validated findings presented by the Technical Working Group on the World Food Programme (WFP) Cash Transfer Programme and formally adopted the County Cash Transfer Plan. The intervention targets 7,992 vulnerable households across Mandera County and forms a key component of the county’s ongoing drought response strategy.

Under the programme, each beneficiary household will receive KSh 7,000 per month from January to March. The cash assistance is intended to cushion affected families against the impacts of the prolonged drought, while safeguarding lives and livelihoods. Implementation of the programme is expected to commence in the coming days through a coordinated effort involving county and national government agencies, alongside humanitarian partners.

The initiative aims to enhance household resilience, improve access to food, and mitigate the effects of the drought on the county’s most vulnerable populations.

Earlier in the day, Governor Khalif also held a consultative meeting with members of the Ulama to strengthen coordination with the Technical Working Group and enhance community engagement in resilience-building efforts.
