County Government of Mandera Launches Countywide Vulnerability Mapping Exercise

The County Government of Mandera, in collaboration with the National Government through the Food Systems Resilience Programme (FSRP) and the World Food Programme (WFP), has launched a countywide vulnerability mapping exercise aimed at identifying vulnerable households and strengthening planning for targeted interventions.

The exercise seeks to enhance the effectiveness of key drought mitigation measures, including livestock feed distribution, cash transfer programmes, and livestock feed subsidies, to support communities affected by prolonged dry conditions.

As part of the initiative, County Driven Development Committees (CDDCs) are being sensitized on the livestock feed subsidy programme. Under the programme, subsidised livestock feed will be delivered to all wards across the county and sold at government-approved subsidised rates, ensuring a continuous and affordable supply of livestock feed throughout the drought period.

The vulnerability mapping exercise is being conducted by a multi-sectoral team comprising officers from the County Commissioner’s Office, Sub-County Administrators, Ward Administrators, Village Administrators, Chiefs, Sheikhs, Elders, and other key stakeholders. Their collaborative engagement is expected to ensure inclusivity, transparency, and accuracy in identifying households most in need of support.

The County Government reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with development partners and community leadership to strengthen resilience, protect livelihoods, and mitigate the impacts of drought on pastoralist communities across Mandera County.
