Launch of Regional Peace, Cohesion and Heritage Centre in Mandera

Earlier today, Governor Roba presided over the launch of the Regional Peace, Cohesion and Heritage Centre in Mandera Municipality. He was joined by Inter peace Regional Director Dr. Theo Hollander, County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha, Deputy Governor H.E Mohamed Arai, Mandera County Assembly speaker Hon. Mohamed Adan Khalif, IGAD representative Dr.Aleo Garang, my senior county officials and peace players from West Pokot, Turkana among others.

The center will go a long way in entrenching peace and security in the region that includes cross border communities in Ethiopia and Somalia alongside Kenyans living along the two borders.

Thanks to God for a project of this magnitude being commissioned amid peace and tranquility in the region in the absence of an active conflict in a land we donated to inter-peace for this project.

Noted for appreciation were Mandera County elders and particularly elders from Banisa sub-county for championing inter-community peace in a sustainable manner, inter-peace for playing a critical role in ensuring conflicts are resolved amicably with minimal violence and for funding the construction of this centre, and the county security team who have been responding swiftly to conflicts, closely working with leaders and communities to forestall sporadic violence and any other entity involved in peace initiatives in the county.
