County Launches 15-Day Mass Livestock Vaccination Campaign in Mandera East, North and Banisa

The County Department of Veterinary Services has launched a 15-day mass livestock vaccination and supportive treatment campaign across Mandera East, Mandera North and Banisa/Kiliwehiri sub-counties.

The intervention is being carried out in collaboration with the RACIDA HANANO programme and is funded by Irish Aid through Concern Worldwide.

The campaign is targeting:

  • Vaccination of 112,500 sheep and goats against Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR);
  • Deworming of 120,000 livestock against internal parasites;
  • Spraying of approximately 5,000 camels against ticks;
  • Treatment of various infections affecting livestock.

Beyond the vaccinations, the exercise will sensitise farmers on zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and best practices for disease prevention.

Speaking during the launch, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture, Mr. Barre Shabure, said the intervention is designed to enhance resilience and protect the livelihoods of pastoral communities. He urged community members to turn out in large numbers to benefit from the exercise.
