County Government Scales Up Efforts to Enhance Flood Resilience and Safeguard Livelihoods in Khalalio Ward

The County Government has initiated key interventions aimed at enhancing flood resilience, safeguarding livelihoods, and boosting food security across flood-prone areas.

On 27th April 2025, a high-level assessment of ongoing flood control projects was conducted in Khalalio Ward. These projects are designed to mitigate the frequent flooding along River Daua, which has adversely impacted farming activities in the region.

The projects assessed include:
1. Khalalio Flood Control Project
• The project involves the construction of a 200-meter-long, 3-meter-high dyke.
Once completed, the dyke is expected to protect more than 300 hectares of agricultural land from flood damage.
2. Shariff Iley Flood Control Project
This intervention entails the construction of a 200-meter-long, 1.5-meter-high dyke.
The structure will safeguard approximately 250 hectares of farmland.
3. Burabor Flood Control Project
The project involves the construction of a 400-meter-long, 2-meter-high dyke.
It is projected to protect more than 200 hectares of land from recurrent flooding.

These critical interventions aim to protect key agricultural zones, improve food security, and strengthen the economic resilience of local communities.

Following the site visits, a consultative engagement was held with stakeholders from the Corner Tribes community. Discussions focused on development priorities and strategies for enhancing community cohesion.

The County Government remains committed to implementing sustainable solutions that build resilience, promote socio-economic growth, and improve the quality of life for all residents.
