The County Government of Mandera, through the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, Livestock and Fisheries, has undertaken site handover of key irrigation and fodder production investments under the Food Systems Resilience Project (FSRP), paving the way for commencement of works across Shantoley East Irrigation Scheme, Bulla Haji Farm, Aresa, Malka Kuna and Kalmalab seed-bulking fodder plots.
The works will deliver improved water lifting and irrigation infrastructure, including solar and diesel pumping systems, conveyance pipelines, rehabilitation of earthen canals, pumphouse and intake works, water distribution structures and preparation of fodder production fields.
The investments will also establish an agroforestry shade-net facility with drip irrigation and vertical gardens at Bulla Haji Farm.
These investments will strengthen reliable water access, climate-resilient agricultural production and sustainable fodder development, supporting improved productivity and resilience of farming and pastoral communities in Mandera County as per the FSRP Project Development Objective (PDO).
