Today, the Deputy Governor of Mandera County H.E. Dr. Ali Mahamud, accompanied by senior officials from the Department of ICT and the Ministry of Education, received 150 computers donated by the UK Government to the County Government of Mandera.
This initiative, part of the UK’s Digital Access Programme in partnership with KICTANet and downstream grassroot partners, under the Strengthening Digital Communities Project aims to bridge the digital divide and enhance digital literacy within the community, contributing significantly to the Kenyan government’s vision of a digitally empowered nation.
The computers will be distributed to the recently established ICT hubs and TVets in Mandera East, Elwak and Banisa sub-counties with the remaining sub-counties on course to be operationalized.
Speaking during the event, H.E. Dr. Ali Maalim called on other partners to support the operationalization of additional vocational centers to ensure comprehensive coverage across all the sub-counties of Mandera county.
The ICT hubs will be the centres of innovation, online jobs, E-learning, research and youth empowerment.
