The County Government of Mandera, through the Food Systems Resilience Programme (FSRP), has launched an emergency livestock treatment campaign in Kutulo, Arabia, Mandera East and Lafey sub-counties.
The exercise is part of ongoing FSRP support in the county, which also includes a livestock vaccination programme using an e-voucher subsidy model to control Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) disease in sheep and goats.
By the end of the campaign, a total of 722,691 animals will be treated and vaccinated. This includes 10,176 cattle, 699,300 sheep and goats, 8,840 camels and 4,375 donkeys.
The exercise aims to help animals recover quickly from the effects of drought, improve their immunity and restore productivity for pastoral households.
Speaking during a field visit, the County Chief Officer for Livestock Development, Mr. Mohamed Adan Issack, said the County Government remains committed to protecting pastoral livelihoods and encouraged communities to take full advantage of the services.
Veterinary teams are already on the ground in the target areas to ensure all communities are reached.
